Your retirement plan

How We Work Together

Our retirement planning process starts with the life you want to build, then connects the retirement, income, tax, Social Security, investment, healthcare, and estate decisions that shape it. Working with a retirement planner should not feel like handing over statements and hoping for the best. The pace and recommendations depend on your circumstances.

The foundation

Start With the Life You Want to Build.

Before the technical work, we talk about the retirement life you want: the time you want with children and grandchildren, travel, work you find meaningful, and the role generosity and charitable giving may play in your retirement and legacy.

These are the parts of retirement that bring you purpose and joy. They drive the planning we do together, shaping your retirement income needs and related investment, tax, healthcare, and estate-planning decisions. The approach is highly personal to you and your household.

Your path

What does the retirement planning process look like?

1

Pre-engagement, 45 minutes

Retirement Strategy Session

We begin with a 45-minute conversation about your situation, background, priorities, and top retirement questions. You will hear how I approach planning and we can assess mutual fit, without pressure or an obligation to move forward.

2

A separate pre-engagement meeting

Retirement Planning Framework

If it makes sense to continue, I create a Retirement Planning Framework, a tangible document we review together. It goes deeper into what matters to your household, what you are planning for, and how I would approach and connect planning decisions. This meeting is still before engagement and helps you determine whether working together is the right fit.

3

Only if the relationship feels right

Choose to Engage

After those two conversations, you decide whether to engage. There is no standard answer for every household, and choosing to engage comes only after you have had space to understand the process and fit.

4

After engagement

Getting Organized and Plan-Building

Once you engage, we organize the information needed for your plan and begin building the priorities into a coordinated planning framework. The depth and sequence of work depend on the questions that are most relevant to you.

After getting organized

From your framework to a coordinated plan.

We then move into the actual plan build, connecting the planning areas that matter most to your retirement. The work is sequenced around your priorities and the decisions that need attention now.

Connected planning

The planning areas that come together in retirement.

These areas are connected because a decision in one may affect another. The work focuses on the priorities most relevant to you, rather than treating every area as a separate project.

Retirement Planning

Your retirement date, spending priorities, and the decisions that need to work together over time.

Tax Planning

The first year

What happens in your first year with a financial advisor?

Your first year is not a checklist to rush through. The pace is shaped by your retirement date, taxes, healthcare coverage, account complexity, and estate-planning needs. We identify what needs attention first, then revisit the plan as your circumstances and priorities evolve.

Organize the decisions that need near-term attention.

Build and coordinate the planning work around your priorities.

Review progress and adjust the focus as life or circumstances change.

An ongoing relationship, not a one-time handoff.

Retirement decisions change as life changes. Ongoing planning gives us a way to revisit the questions that matter, while recognizing that markets, tax rules, health needs, and family circumstances can all shift over time.

Do I become a client after the Retirement Strategy Session?
No. The Retirement Strategy Session is a 45-minute conversation to discuss your situation and decide whether another meeting makes sense. There is no pressure to engage.
What is the Retirement Planning Framework meeting?
It is a separate pre-engagement meeting. We discuss what matters to your household, what you are planning for, and how connected planning decisions could be approached. You can then decide whether working together is the right fit.
How quickly is a plan built after I engage?
The pace depends on your retirement date, tax questions, healthcare coverage, account complexity, and estate-planning needs. We will set priorities together instead of forcing every decision into a standard timetable.
Do I need every planning area at once?
Not necessarily. The benefit of coordinated planning is that related decisions can be considered together, while the near-term work stays focused on what needs attention first.
