What the planning covers

What does retirement planning in Lancaster County include?

Retirement planning here brings six areas into one coordinated plan: retirement income, Social Security, taxes, healthcare before Medicare, investments, and estate basics.

AreaWhat it covers, and its limits
Retirement incomeHow much you can spend, which accounts to draw from first, and when retiring may be realistic. Projections rest on assumptions that may not hold, so the plan is reviewed as your situation changes.
Social Security claimingChoosing when you and your spouse claim, weighed against your other income. The right age depends on health, family, and taxes, so there is no single right answer.
Tax planningRoth conversions and RMD timing, sequenced with your withdrawals. Results depend on your tax situation, so planning is coordinated with your CPA.
Medicare and healthcare before 65Weighing coverage options if you retire before Medicare begins. Costs and plan choices vary, and coverage may need a fresh look each year.
Investment managementA portfolio matched to your timeline and cash flow needs. All investing involves risk, including the loss of principal.
Estate basicsReviewing beneficiary designations and documents with your plan. This is coordination, and legal documents still come from an estate attorney.

These areas are covered by the one flat annual fee, not billed separately. The full list of retirement planning services has more detail, and the fees page explains what the fee includes and where it may not fit.

What you pay

How does the flat fee work?

You pay one flat annual fee for ongoing planning and investment management, and it does not change with the size of your portfolio. It is billed in quarterly installments. There is no percentage of your assets, no commissions, and no compensation from product sales. All of my compensation comes from clients.

The fees page explains what the fee includes.

Faith and planning

If faith is part of how you think about retirement

Some people want their plan to reflect their faith, including giving, family, and legacy. I cover that on a separate page about Christian retirement planning. That page explains how giving, legacy, and income decisions can fit into one plan, and what to ask an advisor. It is educational, and what makes sense for you depends on your own circumstances. Faith is part of the conversation only when you want it to be, and sharing my faith is not required to work together. The planning on this page stays the same either way.

How it works

How does working together work for Lancaster County residents?

It starts with a free intro call, where we talk about where you are and whether we would be a good fit for each other. If we both want to continue, we talk through what working together would look like. The how we work together page lays out the process in more detail.

This is likely a fit if you are:

  • 1 to 5 years from retirement, or already retired
  • Looking for ongoing planning for one flat annual fee

It is probably not a fit if you only want a one-time product or a single transaction.

Common questions

What do people ask about retirement planning in Lancaster County?

Is there a fee-only, flat-fee retirement planner for Lancaster County, PA?

Yes. Ryan Langan, CFP®, is a fee-only, flat-fee retirement planner who works with pre-retirees and retirees in Lancaster County. He is based in West Chester, PA, in neighboring Chester County. Your Path Fi earns no commissions and takes no percentage of your assets. A flat fee is not always the lower cost, so compare it with your own situation.

What does "flat fee" mean, and what does it include?

A flat fee means one annual fee for your planning and investment management that does not change with the size of your portfolio. It is billed in quarterly installments and covers the areas listed on this page, including Social Security, taxes, Medicare, investments, and estate basics. Whether it costs more or less than a percentage fee depends on your portfolio size and how much help you want. The fees page has the details.

What is the difference between fee-only and flat-fee?

Fee-only describes how an advisor is paid: only by clients, with no commissions or other compensation for selling products. Flat-fee describes how the fee is set: one annual amount instead of a percentage of your assets. An advisor can be fee-only without charging a flat fee. Your Path Fi is both.

Where is your firm based, and which Lancaster County towns do you work with?

Your Path Fi is based in West Chester, PA, which borders Lancaster County. Ryan works with pre-retirees and retirees in Lancaster County, including Lancaster and Lititz. If you live elsewhere in the county, you are still welcome to book a free intro call and ask how meetings would work.

When should I start working with a retirement planner?

Many people start 1 to 5 years before retirement, which leaves time to plan Social Security timing, Roth conversions, and healthcare coverage before Medicare. If you have already retired, planning can still help, though some options may be narrower by then.
