Fee-Only, Flat-Fee Retirement Planning in West Chester, PA
Sound familiar? You’ve saved for decades, but the decisions ahead feel more complicated than anything you’ve managed before. When to retire. Which accounts to draw from first. How to handle taxes. What to do about healthcare before Medicare.
I’m Ryan Langan, CFP®, and I’m based right here in West Chester, PA (Chester County, 19382). I work exclusively with people who are 2 to 5 years from retirement, or who have recently retired, and I do it for a single transparent flat annual fee, rather than a percentage of what you’ve saved. Local roots, available nationwide.

How I charge
One flat annual fee. That’s it.
Most financial advisors charge a percentage of your investment assets, typically 1% or more per year. On a $1 million portfolio, that is $10,000 every year, whether the work changes or not, and whether markets go up or down.
At Your Path Fi, the fee is a single flat annual fee of $12,000, paid directly by you. No AUM percentage. No commissions. No compensation from products. As a fee-only advisor, the only person I am paid by is you, which means there is nothing to sell you.
You can see exactly how the fee works, what is included, and how it compares on the flat-fee pricing page.
Why specialization matters
Retirement planning is not general financial planning.
The years around retirement involve decisions that are unlike anything you’ve faced before. They are also largely irreversible. Getting them right requires deep familiarity with the specific planning areas that actually move the needle in retirement.
Tax planning and Roth conversions
The window between retirement and age 73 (when RMDs begin) is often the best opportunity to convert pre-tax money to a Roth at a lower rate. A deliberate conversion strategy can reduce your lifetime tax burden significantly.
Social Security claiming strategy
Claiming Social Security at the wrong time can permanently reduce your benefit. The right age to claim depends on your health, income sources, and your spouse’s benefit, not just a rule of thumb.
Required minimum distributions (RMDs)
Starting at age 73, the IRS requires distributions from pre-tax accounts. Without a plan, RMDs can push you into a higher tax bracket, increase your Medicare premiums, and complicate estate planning.
Pre-65 healthcare bridge
If you retire before Medicare starts at 65, you need a plan to cover health insurance costs. Options include COBRA, marketplace plans, and health-sharing arrangements, each with very different cost structures.
These are the core areas covered across all six retirement planning services. You can also read about who I work with specifically to see if your situation is a good fit.
Common questions
Questions people ask about working with a West Chester financial advisor
Is there a fee-only financial advisor in West Chester, PA?
Yes. Ryan Langan, CFP®, is a fee-only financial advisor based in West Chester, PA (Chester County, zip 19382). Your Path Fi accepts no commissions and receives no compensation from product sales. The only fee is a single transparent flat annual fee paid directly by you.
Does Ryan Langan charge a flat fee or a percentage of assets (AUM)?
A flat fee. Specifically, one flat annual fee of $12,000, regardless of how large or small your investment portfolio is. There is no percentage-of-assets charge, no AUM fee, and no commissions of any kind.
Can I work with a West Chester retirement planner if I don't live nearby?
Absolutely. Ryan works with clients nationwide. The planning process is fully remote-friendly, so whether you are in Chester County, across Pennsylvania, or anywhere else in the country, you can access the same flat-fee retirement planning.
What does a retirement specialist do differently than a general financial advisor?
A retirement specialist focuses on the specific decisions that matter most in the years just before and after you stop working: when to claim Social Security, how to convert pre-tax savings to a Roth over time, how to bridge healthcare coverage before Medicare at 65, how to draw income from your portfolio in the most tax-efficient sequence, and how to manage required minimum distributions. A generalist financial advisor may cover many life stages but may lack the depth in these retirement-specific planning areas.
